Germany: Completion of New “Manitoba“ North America Area at Zoo Osnabrueck

The new “Manitoba” theme area at Germany’s Zoo Osnabrueck, which is dedicated to the animals of the central Canadian Manitoba region, has recently been completed and will officially open to guests this weekend (cf. our park report in EAP, 2/18).

Since autumn last year, visitors have been able to discover one of two sections of the new theme world – the second construction phase has just been completed so that the 3.5 hectare large “Manitoba” area is now also home to the North American beaver, New World porcupines and Arctic foxes. During the last two years, some 3.5 million Euros were invested into the development of this new visitor offer, including an approx. 120-meter long canopy tree walk for an unobstructed view of the wolves and bears.

Today, Zoo Osnabrueck will host an official opening ceremony with invited guests, including Canadian diplomat Jennifer May – visitors to the animal park can look forward to a versatile framework program with hands-on activities for kids and presentations of Canada’s Manitoba region this weekend.
