Germany: New Perspective for Calypso Adventure Pool – Andreas Schauer Takes Over Pool Operation

It just became known that a new operator has been found for the insolvent Calypso bathing and sauna complex in Saarbrücken (Germany). In May, the Vivamar Betriebsgesellschaft operating group had to announce the insolvency for the leisure pool due to the enormous economic damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic (cf. EAP News of 22 May 2020). Andreas Schauer (schauer & co. GmbH), who is also the operator of Saarland Therme located just a 20-minutes drive away from Saarbrücken, has now taken over the operation of Calypso.

“Calypso has had a consistently high visitor frequency in recent years. Saarbrücken is a good location for a modern bathing and sauna landscape, which needs to be further developed […]. I am prepared to support the facility and its employees in the current difficult situation. Adding this attractive family adventure pool complex to my commitment to Saarland Therme is complementary. During the current corona situation, it is not possible to operate a bath and sauna economically, so further improvements of the general conditions are needed. I am confident that after the crisis, Calypso will not only be a highly attractive offer, but will also be able to be run profitably,” comments Andreas Schauer.

Saarbrücken's Lord Mayor Uwe Conradt is delighted with the agreement: “We have new future prospects for the Calypso, that is very gratifying. I am delighted that with Andreas Schauer a renowned operator of pools and thermal baths is continuing operations. The facilities he operates stand for success and quality. I would like to thank him and all those involved in the handover process, not least the employees, for their trust.” (eap)
