According to media reports, the roof of Berlin’s former airport Tempelhof, which was closed in 2008, is to be redesigned and used for touristic purposes in the future. In this context, a 1.2 kilometer long boulevard including a history gallery, a visitor center, a restaurant, a café and several visitor terraces will be built. The plans also include the construction of a photovoltaic system which, upon completion, will cover the airport’s electricity needs to a large extent. The redesign of the roof is part of the restructuring of the whole airport building which also includes the installation of a uniform guidance system with signs, information boards and guideposts. The 20 Mio. Euro project will be financed by the community task “Verbesserung der regionalen Wirtschaftsstruktur" (GRW). The first instalment of 882,000 Euros reached Tempelhof Projekt GmbH last week. The overall construction works are expected to be completed in 2020. (eap)
