Germany: Spreewelten Bad Reveals Further Details on Expansion Plans

Spreewelten Bad in the German town of Luebbenau (Brandenburg region) recently revealed further details on its planned conversion and expansion measures of the bathing complex itself and its penguin enclosure (we reported on this topic in EAP, 3/2016).

By the end of 2018, bathing guests will be able to see the penguins from the indoor pool as well – currently they have to swim into the outdoor area, which is not the best solution in winter times. A panoramic glass front of eight meters width will provide a direct view on the penguins. To carry out construction works, the bathing complex will be closed down for nearly six months in 2018. Recently, Spreewelten also purchased more ground to open a new public parking lot with approx. 200 parking spaces – construction works are scheduled to start this December. The estimated time during which the bath is being closed should not be further extended to avoid significant losses in revenue. Nevertheless – given the high competition in the bathing market – the huge investment is necessary, according to Luebbenau’s mayor Helmut Wenzel.

Thanks to Spreewelten’s unique penguin attraction, the bathing complex is already generating high visitor numbers – almost 90 percent of the guests are not from the Brandenburg region. (eap)
