Mystery Park Steinreich: Revival of an Experience World
(eap) Seven eccentric researchers and a common goal – one that remains a closely guarded secret – form the core of the new storyline at the revitalised Mystery Park Steinreich in Saxon Switzerland (Germany).
Originally opened in 2013, the park was permanently closed in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Following a change in ownership and a fundamental revision of the concept for this family excursion destination near the “Bastei Bridge” – a major tourist highlight in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains with around 1.5 million visitors annually – the park has reopened this year, leading visitors back into the Baroque era.

Covering an area of about half a hectare, and therefore relatively small in scale, the experience world now offers guests a new, active adventure reminiscent of escape rooms but, according to operations manager Janko Bergmann, intended to provide “a multiple of the experience.” Bergmann is the son of the family behind Die Geheime Welt von Turisede, also located in Saxony, and of the company Künstlerische Holzgestaltung Bergmann, which was responsible for concept design and implementation on behalf of the new owner family – private investors from the Lake Constance region.
Visitors immerse themselves in the world of seven eccentric researchers who hide within Steinreich, each pursuing – in different ways – the same objective. What this goal is can be uncovered through puzzling, exploring, and combining clues.

Both children and adults are expected to enjoy around an hour in the experience world, followed by a visit to the adjoining, equally elaborately designed gastronomy offer. In addition, there is an indoor role-play world (also designed by Künstlerische Holzgestaltung).
The aim for this new leisure destination is to appeal to the “nature-loving tourists” who already visit the Bastei Bridge – including those without children – in order to benefit from the attraction’s popularity and increase the length of stay in the region. Combined packages, including a visit to Die Geheime Welt von Turisede, are also available. During the upcoming winter closure period, further parallel play tasks and an interactive indoor treehouse hotel exhibition are planned for development. ■
