Starting in July, visitors to Kasteel de Keverberg in the Dutch town of Kessel (province of Limburg) will be able to explore the historic castle and its history using an AR application.

The new product ExplorAR, developed by Lagotronics Projects, enables a combination of the real and digital world through augmented reality (mixed reality). Using tablets, guests are sent on a digital quest to find QR codes placed in the castle, which open up an augmented reality world for visitors, where they can complete small games – for example, they have to solve puzzles or find certain instructions and objects... Guests also have the opportunity, for example, to travel back in time and experience a historical place or event from the perspective of that time, without the real environment changing for this.

Baron Fritz – the last baron who spent his life in the castle – is now being brought back to life through AR technology after his skeleton was found in the castle´s gardens in 2015. He tells visitors new stories of his life and the old castle in each room. The exciting edutainment experience for the whole family was made possible through the collaboration of Lagotronics Projects with Kasteel de Keverberg and a subsidy from the LimburgToerisme program.
