In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Carowinds theme park in Charlotte, North Carolina, operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, the opening of a new themed area launching this spring has been announced. Construction has already begun on the new “Aeronautica Landing” area, which will be located in the park’s former “Crossroads” themed area. The first attractions are already in place. The new area, dedicated to North Carolina’s aviation history – which was particularly influenced by the Wright Brothers, who, according to their own claims, performed the world’s first motorized flight – will house five new attractions as well as a reimagined existing ride.

These include an attraction called “Air Racer” (an Air Racer 6.4 from Zamperla), “Gear Spin” (a NebulaZ from Zamperla), “Air Walker” (a Disk’O Skater from Zamperla), a circular ride called “Gyro Force” (a Trabant from Chance Rides), and a WindstarZ model from Zamperla, which does not yet have a name. The existing, redesigned bumper car attraction now called “Hover & Dodge” was initially opened in 1979 and present in the park until 2022 under the name “Dodg’ems” (by Majestic Manufacturing Inc.). In addition, the new themed area will feature an airport terminal-style restaurant and a game zone. All in all, this should give the park, named after the region’s winds, a family-friendly themed area that takes a fun approach to the state’s historic theme.

“I am proud to be celebrating the golden anniversary of Carowinds as well as the amazing associates who have delivered on our goal to make our guests happy,” said Manny Gonzalez, Carowinds vice president and general manager. “I look forward to the next exciting 50 years as we continue to bring happiness to our community.” (eap)
