(eap) A new interactive attraction for families was opened at Walibi Belgium (Compagnie des Alpes) today. Dubbed “Silverton”, the ride is a Sidecar XL model from Italian manufacturer Technical Park, which was installed in the “Far West” area of the Belgian theme park. The attraction, which was placed near the “Dalton Terror” free fall tower, features gondolas attached to twelve outrigger arms, each with two seats. The gondolas, designed in great detail as historic steam locomotives with actual smoking chimneys, can be swung up to 90 degrees outward into the air by passengers during the ride by operating a lever. Also the steam and sound effects can be triggered interactively by the passengers. Guests accompanied by an adult are allowed to ride from a height of 90 centimeters.

The name of the ride was chosen in reference to the railroad that served the former mining town of Silverton in the Rocky Mountains (Colorado) at an altitude of 3,000 meters in the 19th century. A total of 1.9 million euros was invested in the new attraction.

“We’re very proud of the result and the rave reviews we’ve received so far. This investment is part of a vast development project we initiated in 2017. Our aim is to revitalize the entire park by creating captivating theme zones and introducing a varied offering of new attractions. Our intention is to further consolidate our image as a family park,” Jean-Christophe Parent, General Manager of Walibi Belgium & Aqualibi. ■
