(eap) Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), a US-based subsidiary of Japan’s Sony Group specializing in the production and distribution of television and film content, has announced a strategic investment of 100 million US dollars in global technology company Cosm. With this move, SPE is participating as the lead investor in Cosm’s Series C financing round and is acquiring a minority stake in the company. Ravi Ahuja, Chairman and CEO of SPE, will also join Cosm’s Board of Directors.
The investment is said to underline Sony Pictures’ focus on experience-oriented entertainment, fan culture and technology. It is intended to create new opportunities for the company to expand its own IPs through immersive, technology-driven experiences.
“We will use this capital to fuel Cosm’s growth as we expand our venue network and advance our technology initiatives across both Sports and Entertainment. Sony is one of the most storied technology and entertainment companies in the world with IP spanning across films, tv, music, and games. Together, we’re positioned to bring more of the world’s most iconic IP to life in ‘Shared Reality’ as we continue to super serve our fans around the world,” said Jeb Terry, President and CEO of Cosm.
Ravi Ahuja added: “Cosm sits at the intersection of several trends shaping the future of entertainment. We’ve followed Cosm since before launch and have been impressed with the quality of the experience and the enthusiasm it’s generating with audiences,” said Ahuja. “We’re excited to support Cosm’s next phase of growth and help bring these experiences to more fans around the world.”

There, visitors can jointly experience live sports events, concerts, films and other entertainment formats on large-scale, dome-shaped immersive LED screens. Further locations are planned for Detroit in September and for Cleveland at the beginning of next year. Additional US and international locations are also in planning and are due to be announced soon.
In Europe, Cosm most recently equipped the completely renovated Prague Planetarium with its LED technology. Read our report on this in EAP issue 6/2025. ■
