Therme Group’s Project in South Korea Continues to Take Shape

(eap) Following the signing of a memorandum of agreement for the development of a thermal spa in the Korean port city of Incheon by the project partners last year, the next step has now been taken towards the realization of the first thermal spa site of the internationally operating Therme Group in the Asia-Pacific region. Last week, the company – which specializes in the development and operation of large-scale thermal and leisure bathing facilities – signed an agreement with representatives of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority for the development of a wellness resort in Songdo, part of the South Korean metropolis of Incheon. The facility, to be developed under the project name Therme Korea-Incheon, is planned to be built within “Songdo Golden Harbor”, a developing 427,000-square-meter commercial district in Songdo’s International Business District.

In this section of the “smart city”, a tourism and leisure complex is to be created, comprising hotels, accommodation facilities, shopping areas, as well as providing access for both cruise ships and car ferries. The thermal spa site itself will occupy an area of approx. 99,000 square meters and will follow the typical design standards of the Therme Group. Plans envision a year-round wellness facility featuring a spa, water park, and relaxation offerings housed within an architecturally distinctive glass building.

“South Korea is an important market for Therme Group as we continue to scale unique wellbeing resorts in major cities around the world. With IFEZ Authority’s visionary support and Songdo’s international profile as a leading smart city, Therme Korea-Incheon will offer a world-class wellbeing destination – an ideal retreat for business travelers, a must-visit for tourists, and a vibrant hub for the local community,” said Dr Robert Hanea, CEO of Therme Group.
