(eap) What do amusement parks like Bakken or Tivoli Gardens in Denmark, the Karls Erlebnis-Dörfer in Germany, and Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach in the UK have in common with funfairs? They all offer a pay-per-ride model, in which visitors pay for rides and attractions individually. Depending on the facility and concept, park admission is either free or charged separately. Payment is handled, for example, through individual tickets, tokens, or digital prepaid cards. In a hybrid model, guests can also purchase day passes for unlimited rides.
Toverland in the Netherlands is now introducing a similar offer on a temporary basis. To conclude its 25th-anniversary celebrations, the amusement park is offering its guests a special promotion: Admission is free on three weekends and three Wednesdays between 28 November and 16 December 2026. Guests pay exclusively for the attractions and activities according to the pay-per-ride-principle.
To do so, they purchase a multi-ride card, which is available digital card or as a physical card. A single credit costs two euros, and each ride requires one, two or three credits, depending on the size of the attraction. So a ride or activity costs a maximum of six euros. When purchasing larger packages, the price per credit decreases. Alternatively, visitors can buy regular day passes that grant them unlimited access to the attractions. Annual pass holders will also continue to enjoy unlimited access to all attractions. Anyone wishing to take advantage of the free park admission as part of the promotion must reserve online in advance. The offer is limited per day.
By lowering the barrier to visiting, Toverland could also attract audiences who have not previously visited the park or who would prefer to drop in for a shorter stay. This could generate additional revenue for the park from individual rides, food and beverage sales, and retail.

“To bring our anniversary year to a festive close, we’re offering a pay-per-ride option during the first three weeks of our Winter Feelings event,” says Bart Jaspers, Senior Manager Marketing & Communications. “This means everyone can experience Toverland in their own way. During Winter Feelings, the entire park is also transformed into one giant winter wonderland, where visitors can enjoy enchanting decorations, winter activities and extra entertainment. It’s an ideal day out for the whole family. Whether you want to brave every roller coaster or simply soak up the winter atmosphere, the pay-per-ride offer means you decide how much your day at Toverland costs.” ■
