Dallas City Plan Commission Approves Therme Group Plans

Further planning requirements have been established for the proposed therme site in Dallas.

(eap) The Dallas City Plan Commission yesterday approved the changes to the planning regulations for the proposed Therme site along the Trinity River in Dallas, Texas, requested by Therme Group. Specifically, the existing planning provisions for the site are to be amended and expanded. This includes, among other things, a separate permit for a pedestrian skybridge. The aim is to create further planning conditions for the development of the proposed “Regional Wellness Campus”. According to the company, the approval marks an important milestone for the planned development of a Therme destination along the Trinity River near the new Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. The application will now be forwarded to the Dallas City Council, which is expected to consider the matter this fall.

“Therme is committed to the City of Dallas and eager to advance a project that will create hundreds of jobs, generate millions of dollars in new tax revenue and deliver a wellbeing destination unlike any other in the United States. Today’s approval reflects the considerable work undertaken with City planning staff and community leaders. We look forward to continuing through the public approval process and presenting our plans to the Dallas City Council,” explains John Alschuler, Executive Chairman of Therme Group US.

According to the company, the planned site along the Trinity River is intended to help better connect the newly developed convention center district with South Dallas, which has long been separated from the city’s downtown area. “City Manager Kim Tolbert and Council Member Jesse Moreno have demonstrated tremendous leadership throughout this process and recognize the lasting value Therme can bring to Dallas. As conversations continue about the future of downtown, we are more committed than ever to our site along the Trinity River. We strongly believe Dallas is positioned to become one of the world’s great global cities in the decades ahead,” Alschuler adds.

Therme Dallas is planned to follow the concept of the operator group’s existing European thermal spa destinations and include thermal and bathing facilities, saunas, water slides as well as further leisure and wellbeing offerings. In addition to Dallas, further Therme projects are currently under development or planned in Manchester, Frankfurt, Toronto, Washington, D.C., Singapore, Dubai and Incheon. ■
